When it comes to training for Christian ministry we often think about spiritual development and being equipped in the Bible, prayer, and spiritual gifts. We also talk about our heart; how to heal from past wounds and grow in relationships with others. Then there is the emphasis on our minds and how we should fix our thoughts on the truth of God’s Word.
But what about our body? We often don’t address the vessel that God has given us to show love in the world. The body that takes us to the mountains of Nepal, or the jungles of Brazil. The body that hugs a widow in China or gives food to a child in Uganda. God gave us this body, so we want to view it the way that He does. Jesus must have thought a body was important if He came to earth to live in one. He became human too. We won’t worship our bodies or obsess over them, but we won’t neglect them either. The Holy Spirit lives in this body, so we want to take care of it. Many areas of outreach and the mission field are physically taxing, so we need to prepare physically, as well as spiritually, mentally and emotionally.
In the Transformation DTS, also known as the Sports and Fitness Discipleship Training School, we will incorporate wholistic health and wellness strategies alongside all of the spiritual, mental and relational training we do in a traditional DTS.
This will include:
Exercising 5 times a week
Beneficial nutrition options to fuel your body
Times for recovery and rest
Opportunities to grow in your body image and body awareness
Our school leader is a trained group fitness instructor who uses fitness as a tool to share the gospel. Our goal is that you would learn and incorporate healthy habits in your physical and spiritual life that will set you up to be the healthiest version of you for the long term.
Not an athlete? Don’t let the fitness part turn you away. All of our workouts have options for all ability levels: beginner, intermediate, and advanced. There is no specific skill level you must achieve, and we don’t compare ourselves to the person next to us. We are glorifying God with our bodies, since He is the one who created us.
“Therefore I urge you brothers and sisters by the mercies of God to present your bodies as a living sacrifice to God, which is your spiritual worship, and do not be conformed to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.”– Romans 12:1-2
